Langatun Monbazillac Cask Finish Swiss Single Malt Whisky 49.12%
Initially matured in a French Chardonnay cask, this single malt has been finished for 14 months in a former Monbazillac cask, which has created a wonderfully sweet whisky.
The Monbazillac wine growing region in south east France is renowned for its intense sweet wines, similar to sauternes. Monbazillac is traditionally made from ‘noble rot’ grapes of the Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle varieties, which are harvested by hand.
This whisky was distilled in October 2016 and bottled in January 2023. The single cask gave 473 (500ml) bottles.
Colour: Golden brown
Nose: Very spicy and sweet with aromas of dried figs, cinnamon, wood, toasted almonds, stewed cherries and buttered biscuit.
Palate: Very intense, sweet and fruity with accents of forest honey, liquorice, cinnamon bun, caramelised pear, crème brûlée and a nice wood spice.
Finish: Long and intense, getting a little drier with flavours of nuts, molasses and wood, with the spiciness coming back nicely.
