Langatun Madeira Cask Finish Swiss Single Malt Whisky 49.12%
This single malt was initially matured in a former Chardonnay cask, then finished for 18 months in a former Madeira cask, which has added a layer of spiciness to this whisky.
Madeira wine may only be produced on the island of Madeira. The natural fermentation of Madeira is interrupted so that the sugar contained in the must does not ferment completely. This gives the wine a particularly intense sweetness. Unusually Madeira wine is warmed as part of the maturation process.
Distilled in March 2016 this single cask was bottled in August 2022, and is a limited edition of 525 (500ml) bottles.
Colour: Old oak
Nose: Sweetish with beautiful wood notes, caramel, liquorice, forest honey, sultanas, dried banana, and nice toasted aromas.
Palate: Very intense aroma with lots of wood, subtle sweetness, toasted aromas and subtle wine notes.
Finish: The honey comes back, slightly bitter wood notes, relatively dry, spicy.
